I suspect our friend LB/LN has more imaginary demons rumbling around in that empty boxcar he calls a head than imaginary friends, Jeff :laugh: .
Considering the comments he's made about me in the few quotes I've seen others post when they responded to him, I can't possibly imagine why he would consider me a friend or care about my reasoning, but I do know that I have cut back on my postings in the Paddock's political topics because the radical conservative contingent does not seem to want to discuss, much less debate with reliable/valid "proof", the topics at hand. They prefer to state their opinions as fact with no support and have nothing but ridicule for those who disagree, much less dispute their opinions.
For that reason, I chose to follow George's Rule and leave them believing what they know to be true. I had high hopes that when LB posted his suggestion that we refrain from name calling and focus on the topics there would be rational debate again....but, alas, I was once again disappointed, but not surprised as it is my considered opinion (based on a 32 year career devoted to helping those with various handicaps, including those of a mental/emotional nature) that LB's opinions and the divisive manner in which his postings read are neither one the result of rational thought patterns, but rather the ramblings of a sadly paranoid and increasingly delusional individual.
I suspect if he truly had "friends" who have quit posting on the political threads, it must surely have been a pre-emptive strike at avoiding any form of illusion that they are aligned with LB's modus operandi.
His tactics are typical slash-and-run, cowardly trolling and he is not going to answer your request above. His "friends" have already abandoned his cause and he is alone....again.....obviously NOT an unusual situation for LB (hence the "lonesome" part of his forum name). His silence on the issue speaks way more than any response he could formulate.

OK, I'll play but I want to make it clear that I have never seen any future in "debating" with people I am not face to face with and even then, there seems little point. The internet seems a fine place to make a statement based on your opinion/experience/philosophy but I've never viewed it as a place where it would serve any purpose to offer a contrary and perhaps provocative contrary opinion and I treat the medium in the same way as I would a conversation in a bar.
Over the years I have learned a lot from what people have said on GT40's and have made many friends here. My one regret is that I have now run out of health (but not money) to enjoy a GT40 and thus have become used to being regarded (in GT40's terms) as a 2nd class citizen exuding more "noise" than "signal" hence my more usual posting location - The Paddock. This is a relatively recent phenomena and probably coincides with the more commercial aspect of the site which is perfectly reasonable given the costs of hosting such an enterprise. That it is as big and professional as it is today is all due to Ron's vision.
Given that, the Paddock has become a kind of gentleman's club in it's truest sense and was an extremely enjoyable experience to read and post in. Some members became incensed enough with poltical issues to post prime examples of political bad behaviour for all to learn from. No-one challenged these relevations because, as brothers, we were all victims of it.
It would be completely disengenuous of me to ignore the plain fact that American Politics are in no way similar to ours in the UK, and once similar political posts started appearing by American members is when things started getting ugly. Plainly, we do not employ the same confrontational political tactics in Europe that seems common practice in the USA.
But hey, if that is what works in the US that's fine by me and I understand that now - lesson learned.
Accordingly, several UK members (including myself) attempted to find some common ground that we could share debate with. I guess that was our (my) first and most fatal mistake.

If we had a poll my idea would be to ask the person getting the most votes/ named to fuck off and stop using the paddock. Jeff Young seems to be the common thread that has spoiled the paddock for many people including me.

I fully respect and understand Keith's and David's opinions and reasons for leaving but we are all different and shaped by our experiences. if there were ever a reason for my leaving it would be your last post Bob.
From when I was in a pram being pushed around by my mum with vote Peter Brough stickers all over it I have been involved in Politics.
Many years ago when I was 28 I was elected as a Liberal District Councillor in a very Conservative area of West Dorset, an election I was not supposed to win.
My proudest moment (sad I know) was when Lord Waddington (Consevative peer) the then home secretary came to talk to the voters of Beaminster the small town I represented. They would only let card carrying members of the Conservative party in but I got in with the old "do you know who I am" routine.
A blatant untruth was told regarding the council's high spending which was blamed on the Liberals and Labour members of the council. At the question stage of proceedings I stood up to challenge this as the Council spending was well below the Conservative governments projected figures and the council was made up of a majority of independent members and I am fairly certain the Conservatives were the biggest party, so any budget voting was controlled by these two groups, not by the Liberals or Labour members.
I felt it was necessary to point this out and correct the untruth, I never got the chance as two burly minders appeared and unceremoniously escorted me out. To be fair one of my Conservative councilor friends did point out strongly I was only trying to ask a question.
Now in all those years of debating I have never experienced vitriol such as "I am absolutely repulsed by liberals. If its not the rampant, narcissistic, megalomanic personality, its the utter liars they all are."
Why would I want to stay and debate if you think that of me, and why would you want me to stay.
Call it over-sensitivity if you like but I feel more for my Dad who like all of us was not perfect but was the most honest caring Gentle man I have ever known in my life, and Liberal through and through. He will be turning in his grave.

Bob, no disrespect here, but we must all rise above this. We have had some great discussions and I have learned a good deal about politics, health care and different systems. With what I have learned, I have been able to bring this knowledge to others who are far more ingrained in their own political stuckness. And guess what, they can't argue against most of what I have to say.
Let me just add one more thing. When the name calling started late last year, I put three of you on the "ignore" list. Two are still on it, but one was big enough to wish me a Happy Birthday (and I think he knows who he is). With that, I now read and respond to his posts as he has become a gentleman (from my perspective).
