No, he's been good enough not to ask me... plus the Holley got sold to a fellow for his Mustang. Which runs VERY well with it, dammit. I am determined to have Webers on this car and have them run well. If Holleys were better back in period they would have run Holleys. Wait a minute, they DID run Holleys. Never mind.....:)

Can we assume that you have lowered the fuel pressure that you presumably had set @ around 6 psi for the 4bbl down to around 2.5/3.5 psi for the webers for a start....

A good question. We did lower the fuel pressure, it is about 3.5, and we are going to turn it down a bit more to 2.5 psi. Also I was told to set the advance so that it is advanced 38 degrees when fully in. I also went over the cam specs with a Weber specialist and he said the cam should be fine with these. I really do think it is a matter of the setup being too lean in the idle and transition parts of the rev range.

A few photos of the session the other day, and a (not very good) running shot....you can see the front tires, which look too small in overall diameter. Also the washer nozzles, Dzus fasteners with flags, turn signals which work, and the rear window installed... the seating areas are fine, we put blocks of foam on top of the webbing, all indications are that this will be pretty comfortable when done, and hold you in there fairly well. Seat belts are about done also, although we didn't use them (!), but they are just about secured in there; the builder of the chassis put attachment points in for them.

It's interesting that the things I thought would be the problems turn out not to be, and the things I didn't expect ARE. Isn't it always that way?

The car looks fantastic as usual. What looks just as good, is the grass. I still have over a foot of snow on my lawn. Keep up the good work.

Regards Brian

Installing the mirrors was duck soup. I forgot to adjust them to see out the back, but I wasn't going all that fast anyway... they do look good, don't they? I got them from this guy who had stashed them away for just such an event, very good of him, I thought..:)

Some progress on the Webers, acc to Ron (I was busy doing things far less fun than working on the GT40)- somewhat better, but we can't figure out which emulsion tube is in there, it isn't labeled. So we are sending a photo to the Weber consultant- a photo of the emulsion tube- and are also going to get some advice on main jets, idle jets, etc. And the damn fuel pumps may have quit again, but I have some NOS spares which we may need.... the fun never ends. Better now than later....I am going to drive up later in the week if Ron isn't going racing...maybe there'll be some work available, suitable for my meager skills....

We have new venturis, idle and main jets coming from Jim Inglese tomorrow, so we may try to get all that in and fire her up again. Haven't sorted out the fuel pump problem, but I think they have nothing to pump. Hard to imagine, as GT40s always had a reputation as rather economical cars....

Well, learning is usually painful, and today was no exception.

We are not much closer to the finish line on tuning the GT40's engine. We tried a larger set of main jets, and bigger venturis, as well as idle jets. We spent some time trying to figure out why no fuel would flow- evidently the fuel path airlocks every now and again- very frustrating. Cracking a hose union solves it, but why does it happen? I would assume IDFs have float bowl vents- maybe I am assuming wrongly. And, as before, the engine runs well over 3000 revs, but not very well lower down than that.

So the next step is to try #70 idle jets and some different emulsion tubes from Jim Inglese, who is helping us out with some expert advice. Pretty much everything else on the car is fine- all the things I expected to be problems have behaved themselves so far. But the engine, which is the heart and soul of the car, is still unwilling to get with the program.

We'll get there. It's just taking a while.

Stick with it Jim. You will end up with a fine car and also be very knowledgeable about Webered engines.
Thanks for the updates. Problem solving (by someone else) is very interesting to read.
