Why you stopped posting.

I'm starting this thread because I've gotten several private messages from members who have decided not to post here anymore. Thanks to you guys for sharing your insights.

I'm hoping that you'll come back one last time and tell us why you stopped, and please, name names.

I know I'm opening myself up for some harsh criticism, but I think some of you here may be surprised at the reasons the guys I've corresponded with gave.

Please come on board, and share!

Sincerely,

Bob

I'm still posting, but I am pretty sure that many do not like political debate on a car forum, even if it is the Paddock and anything goes. The other reason is the
personal abuse and name calling from both sides which I also find unnecessary
and offensive.

I agree with all of that. This forum would be better off without the paddock in my opinion.

Next.

Would the forum be better off with out Jeff?
Would the forum be better off with out Pete?
Would the forum be better off with out Keith?
Would the forum be better off with out Bob?
Would the forum be better off with out Jim?
Would the forum be better off with out Dave?
Would the forum be better off with out Marcus?
Would the forum be better off without..........?

But would the forum be better off with out the name calling , blasphemous posts, bickering etc.?

I know which gets my vote

I also know I now try not to post on the political threads - just not worth it as it gets up my nose the way some people respond.

I'd hate to see anyone leave because of the political threads and the "noise" it has caused in recent months.

And if anyone cares to ask I'm conservative but also believe in treating everyone with dignity and respect - can you all say this?

I agree with most of that. I still think on car forums it is better if we all just enjoy our mutual shared love of cars, rather than argue politics. Hell, I remember one glorious thread by the Lonesome that was basically along the lines of "how can liberals like cars, they want to destroy car culture" or some nonsense like that.

THAT is the crap that needs to stop.

I am pleased (read warm and fuzzy) that we are able to take onboard what has happened and demonstrate a general willingness to co-operate and perhaps self police our behavoir.

I have said elsewhere, that in my case, I don't post almost anywhere except at GT40s and don't really want to go elswhere for discussions. I like sharing my views with the guys here.

Bob,

Remember you did ask.

Why I left

Marcus,

I agree, although you might not see this. I do not think I have ever started a political discussion but if I see one I cannot accept I just cannot seem to help commenting, it is so easy from behind the defences of a keyboard. I suspect a reaction is what some thread starters are after. The smart thing would be to ignore them but I am not that smart.

Some think this is attention seeking, I don't think so although who really cares what I think. All it does is feed the fire and as the same subjects keep cropping up time and time again I'm obviously kidding myself if I think I can change anyone's opinion.

I have said it more than once but this time I must try harder, like many other Brits recently BFN.

:)

Why I returned

I retuned because in my opinion the post by Al below was so blatantly untrue it had to be challenged.

And because in my opinion there is considerable evidence to prove the post by Doug below, (which you tried to discredit) is in the present times fundamentally true.

"get a job, work hard, and you will end up making someone else more wealthy while you and your family may BARELY be able to put food on the table".

Why I will be leaving again,

Even though I offered to provide the evidence which I believe prove my points, no one took up my challenge.

Which again in my opinion proves my initial thoughts no one wants to be challenged or is really bothered what I think.

The other reason is I still haven’t worked out if you are serious, a recruitment agent for the Republicans a recruitment agent for the Democrats, a combination of all of them or as my instincts suspect, a first class wind up merchant just having a bit of fun at our expense.

Ignoring the situation completely, and removing one's self from being unwittingly drawn into a pointless brawl, usually ends up with the offending parties moving on to fresh pastures as they search for their "fix' elswhere. I guess I just don't have the time it takes to constantly stir the pot. Somebody around here has to build the pot and the spoons.

I wonder how may posts will be made before the fingerpointing starts up on this string?

There is only one person who invokes nearly all the venom and hatred on this site. How about a poll as all the previous polls on this web site were about ineffectual shit- this one would be much more informative?

I haven't stopped posting, but I sure slowed down when I put the three biggest "offenders" on "ignore".

At times, there are few posts that show on a thread, the "mutual admiration society" formed by my three "ignored" forum members is so self-generating that others can't get a word in edgewise (not that it would make a difference).

David is right, there's one primary "fly in the ointment", so to speak, who seems to originate all the rancor on here.

My tactic:

And, for sure, the "offending party" is DEFINITELY more stupid than me

OK so that's a reason for me but why did you stop ;)

Hi Nick,

I've been busy working on my promising career as a stunt man in porn flicks ;)

Actually, I think some of the heated rhetoric has gotten divisive and just a bit boorish. So I just haven't wanted to get involved. Besides, I find myself rereading some of my posts and they sound like some sort of long winded journal critique and who needs that. I'll comment if I see something that either needs some information for clarity or I can sound like I've recently stayed at a Holiday Inn Express.

Veek,

Nice post, Although I often strongly disagree with you, losing your thoughtful postings would be a huge loss to our little community.

If by putting up with a few rude, over the top folks means losing the likes of you, David, Molleur, Doc, Keith, Doug, Pat, Pete, Mark, Tim, Cliff, Nick, Gravy and some others..............I say throw the bastards out!

By the way, I've got "you know who" on ignore. i can tell he is posting, so I want to make sure he knows I've got him on ignore! Sometimes I do read what he says, cause I really don't have him on ignore, but I think it hurts his feelings to make him think he's on ignore! So, if you don't already know, he's on ignore! Maybe I should really put him on ignore so I don't accidently show i'm still reading his posts, nah, I gotta know if he says something I want him to know I'm not reading.

OH, my momma always told me, "son, you're not stupid. Don't listen to what anyone says, 'stupid is as stupid does!" So, I tell everyone how smart I am, and to remind me, momma gave me a bumper sticker. It has something to do with how smart i am, so, I show pitchers of it all the time! She also said, "honey, if you can't do it, teach it!" So I done went to skool and lernt how to teach! Now, I'm retarded, too old to get away with all my mistakes, and don't have to work no more, so I go around and pretend to be reel smart!!!!

I've still got "you know who" on ignore, snicker, snicker!

I'm smart!~

Thanks for the reassuring thought Jim. It may surprise you that one of my personal heroes was an uber liberal, Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan . I actually met him once he was as genuine a fellow as you could ever imagine. I share a lot of his views on culture and race. Here is one of my favorite quotes.

Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts.
