What's your Daily Driver?

Okay, for a change of pace, and I'm probably going to get laughed off the site but you did ask......

This is my South African assembled (in late 1996) Opel Kadett 200is, that I’ve owned since 1999. I bought at 50 000 km and now it has 250 000 km on it.

I recently had it serviced and polished and I reckon it looks pretty good for a car of that age. The only non standard bits are a branch manifold, a stainless steel exhaust and the paint on the wheels .

I do have it properly maintained though, in my ownership it’s had:

4 sets front brake pads
2 sets front brake discs
8 x rim repairs (potholes)
22 tyres
3 cam belts (preventative maintenance)
2 windscreens (sandblasted)
1 set dampers
3 batteries
1 starter
1 alternator
1 clutch (centre broke out)
1 clutch cable
1 tie rod end
1 wiper motor
1 headgasket + set rings and bearings (took head off to investigate water loss, did R&B while we were their)
5 x aircon repairs
Body repairs to front, rear and a LHS side swipe from a truck.

Sounds like a lot, but it is over 9 years.

Cheers

My car is the 2000 Ford Crown Victoria P71 (Police Interceptor). The wife's is the 2005 Ford F-150 Lariat 4x4. If I'm showing ranch property, I steal the truck. If I am just tooling around, I drive my car. I have actually pulled someone over. Everyone asks me that. A guy was blowing through a red light in a Mustang and I turned out onto that street from a neighborhood. I floored it and was gaining on him quickly and I could tell he let off the gas. I kept it floored and was running right up on his ass. He pulled over to the side of the road aaannnd...

I just went right past him. Impersonating an officer is a felony offense!!

The cop car really comes in handy when I'm in Austin and I want to get somewhere. I get to what I call, "An Authoritative Speed" which is usually about 80 mph, and everyone magically gets the hell outta my way. It's awesome. I clear out a whole lane of highway with this thing.

If you live in a crowded city, I highly suggest picking up one of these things. They're cheap, reliable, and really scoot. Mustang high performance engine parts are interchangeable. Mine was a Detective's car. If you get a Detective's car or a Supervisor's car, then you get real interior and they're usually not beat to all hell. My car is blue, if you get a dark blue one, dark gray one, or a black one, you're gooood. I'm not a big fan of the white ones. Too bland...

Laters,

Brian

When you have four small children the suburban tank works pretty well...

With the 5.3l she'll tow a ski boat, carry 7 plus gear, take you skiing and do about 17 on the freeway (no tow).

Our last name is Beer (hence the personal plate).

I have a Volkswagen Pheaton. Its one of the coolest cars I have had for a family vehicle. My wife drives an 07 Denali XL. Thats the tow vehicle when I need to pull the trailer.

my daily is this 1968 mk2 cortina, i converted it to a 2 door and it runs a 2.0 zetec on gsxr tb's, needs constant work, welding etc as nothing gets done properly. i allways need it on the road the next day for work!!

i alternate between the cortina and my escort, although the escort has been off the road for a few months as somebody in a truck decided to drive into the front wing!

I had a '95 Acura Integra GS-R. Bought it in 1998 with ~36k miles, and had it up to
~185k miles when it was stolen last year.

I now drive an '08 stock VW Jetta S. It's OK, and I got a good deal on it, but I sure
miss the Integra. That VTEC really showed its stuff @ 80mph - it would get nearly
40 mpg. Even in rough tune, I was averaging about 28 mpg, something the Jetta
will only do on a great day.

^ Mine is a 2000 Integra GS-R with the JDM front end conversion.

I get just a tad above 30 mpg around town and I'm sure I could do much better than that if I actually drove slower.

It's been one of my favorite cars I've ever owned. It's been super reliable and when it breaks it's super easy and cheap to fix.

Some further mods to Glens MkII that he might wish to incorporate/avoid, & yes I did drive it every day there was a race meeting!

Have a 95 BMW 525 with a Toyota 2JZ twin turbo from a Supra or the Yamaha V-max.

Friggin AWESOME!! I had a '93 525 that I loved so much. Do I have pictures? Of course I do, thanks for asking...

These are when I took my car and my friend Alex's car out to Mansfield Dam in Austin. His is the silver 1991 M5, mine's the 1993 white 525i.
